Unlike some other forms of pain, chronic pain rarely goes away even after your initial injury or ailment has healed. It is characterized by chronic pain that continues for more than six months and can be accompanied by depression and anxiety, stress, loss of sleep, and difficulty in functioning. There are several causes for chronic pain such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, shingles, migraine, multiple sclerosis, kidney disease, and post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD). The most common symptom of chronic pain is persistent pain over an extended period of time.
